Meet the Builder

Lynn Swadley Professional PicLynn Swadley is truly one of the most unique Builders in the Upper Peninsula of Michigan.  Within the past three decades he has earned a reputation as an innovative leader in the housing industry.  By demonstrating an unswerving commitment to excellence, integrity, quality designs and construction practices and especially to customer service, he has built one of the most well-known home-building firms in the central Upper Peninsula.  Sunrise Builders Inc. is known for its total dedication to detail, craftsmanship, and the exacting standards that others are measured against in our area.

Lynn entered the building industry in 1972 in San Antonio, Texas, working from the ground up with various firms in the fast growing markets of Texas.  He was no stranger to the jobsites, as his grandfather was a longtime cabinet maker, and contractor in Oklahoma and Missouri.  He was brought up with the strong belief that honesty and hard work results in a “job well done”.  After learning the carpentry, concrete, painting, and other building trades, he moved up north to the U.P. to start a business in a new environment.   He started Sunrise Builders in Marquette in January of 1977.

Breaking GroundSunrise Builders has since built and remodeled hundreds of homes.  They have built dozens of apartment buildings, office buildings, restaurants, motels and many other types of commercial projects.  Lynn was also one of the first to bring the true super-insulated design and construction practices to the central Upper Peninsula.  He was recognized statewide for this by being featured on the cover of the February 1987 issue of Michigan Building Business magazine.  The Michigan Association of Home Builders brought him to Lansing at that time to conduct seminars teaching super-insulated technology to Builders from around the state.

Upper Peninsula Home BuilderLynn has been active in the Upper Peninsula Home Builders Association since 1978 as well as the State and National Associations of Home Builders.  Lynn believes in dedicated service to your profession on a local, state, and national level.  He has served on the Board of Directors for the UPBA since that time, and was twice elected President for 1983-84 and 1986-1987.  He has been the Upper Peninsula Director for the Michigan Association and the National Association of Home Builders Association for over thirty years. He was honored in 2003, as the first Builder from the Upper Peninsula ever to receive the prestigious Michigan Housing Achievement Award from his colleagues in the Michigan Association of Home Builders.

Marquette Michigan New Home Builder Harlow FarmsLynn entered the development profession in 1988 with the design and building of a professional office building.  Then, he developed the prestigious subdivision, “The Summits” in the hills of South Marquette. The homes he designed and built there reflected his ability to make the most of the surrounding natural setting with the innovative site planning he is known for.  In 1998 he opened one of the finest neighborhoods in the Marquette area – Huron Woods.  You will find many of his unique custom home designs in this spacious rural setting.  In 2003 he opened Granite Pointe Conservation Community. Here he offers a  beautiful 51 acre, cluster style, conservation community that is now recognized by many as the best example of creative land planning and home designs in the Upper Peninsula. Granite Pointe, Huron Woods and The Summits, remain among the most desirable places to live in Marquette’s growing professional community.

Harlow Farms Conservation Community is the latest development he is creating, having begun in 2007.  His passion for creating unique neighborhoods is exemplified by this multigenerational community of 105 acres.
